This is the foundation level of the South West Mountain and Moorland Leader Training Scheme (SWMMLTS) and provides an introductory level of knowledge, understanding and experience sufficient to lead groups safely and enjoyably in 'summer conditions' in coastal and rural countryside environments.
This two-day, one-night course is intended for those leading groups in open countryside and on the coastal footpath and who wish to camp on recognised campsite in non-remote locations. The course covers navigation, route planning, leader and group equipment for walking and camping, and management of groups when walking and campsite camping. At the end of the course delegates will be given an individual action plan to help in further development as a walking leader.
The course will include an overnight camp with tents to cover the syllabus of the Coastal and Countryside Camping Endorsement.
NB Participants will be required to pay an additional one-off SWMMLTS registration fee of £30. Any future SWMMLTS courses applied for will not incur this charge.
