The purpose of this session is for Governing Board chairs and prospective chairs to develop their understanding of leading governance.
The course will be delivered in two 2- hour virtual sessions via Zoom and joining instructions will be sent nearer the time.
New chairs will be expected to attend both virtual sessions to complete the course.
Course Objectives
The course will explore:
Session one: • Being the chair • The chair’s role in the three core functions of governance - ensuring vision, values and strategic direction - holding the senior leaders to account - ensuring financial probity • The chair’s role in ensuring effective governance
Session two: • Chairing meetings • The chair’s specific responsibilities: - Complaints, grievances and disciplinaries - Performance management of the senior leader - Concerns raised by the LA or the Trust - Role in Ofsted - Urgent matters - Safeguarding - Leadership of the organisation
