Course Overview This course is for those who have already attended the children’s safeguarding course and already have a grasp of safeguarding principles. This course explores specifically with the needs of disabled children and our role in safeguarding Course Aim To develop knowledge and skills in the care and protection of disabled children, to promote effective child protection practice with disabled children.
Knowledge On successful completion of this course participants will: • To understand and counter barriers to identifying and acting on child protection concerns for disabled children. • To develop knowledge and practice in identifying and responding to the needs of children who are disabled and who may be at risk of significant harm. • To understand the confusion of signs and indicators that can occur when working with disabled children. • Confidence to take action - what do you do?
Skills On successful completion of this course participants will: • Be able to identify the reasons why disabled children are more vulnerable to abuse • Be able to identify and respond to safeguarding concerns for disabled children. • Be able to pass on concerns they may have in relation to disabled children.
