The course is aimed to give teachers and support assistants the tools to make high-tech AAC successful in their mainstream classrooms. The course will identify challenges of using high-tech AAC as a main means of communication and how to overcome these. It will cover aspects such as vocabulary development, IEPs and target setting, phonics and reading development, assessing and testing, teaching writing to those using high-tech AAC, adapting the curriculum, extending Means Reasons and Opportunities in the classroom
- To know what AAC is, why it is used and what benefits and implications it can have in the mainstream setting. - To be able to identify problems and solutions on managing the high-tech equipment. - Ideas on how to extend and develop a high-tech system in the mainstream school including vocabulary development. - Ways in which to access the curriculum fully using high-tech AAC. - Curriculum challenges in the mainstream classroom when teaching a child who uses AAC.
