Childminders / Early Years Practitioners / Teachers / Teaching Assistants / Working in substance misuse services
Good early language skills are central to children’s early years development and school readiness. They play a crucial role in literacy, a child’s ability to achieve their educational potential, their social mobility, and their life chances.
This course aims to provide practitioners with a range of practical approaches to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence to promote language development for every child and to close the ‘word gap’ for children as they start school.
Practitioners will learn strategies to:
- maximise learning through high quality interactions which extend vocabulary; - create language rich environments that promote all children’s speech, language and communication development; - identify children who are at risk of or who are not achieving expected levels of progress in the development of their communication skills; - learn strategies to engage reluctant talkers and extend more able talkers.
