Two practical, interactive workshops for pairs of practitioners interested in understanding more about effective early years mathematics teaching and learning. With a particular focus on shape, space and measures.
This course is in two parts – one face to face session in the autumn with the second in the spring. Participants must be able to attend both sessions. Participants will be expected to complete a task with their children in between the two sessions. Day one consists of input for half a day with the opportunity to spend the rest of the day working with your colleague on the material presented during the morning. Day two consists of half a day input from the trainer.
The course aims to:
- increase understanding of what effective mathematics learning might look like in reception and year 1; - equip participants with ideas and tasks related to the big ideas in early years mathematics; - increase awareness of international research into early years mathematics; - explore the roles of problem solving, reasoning and recording in young children’s mathematics learning.
Applicants must attend in pairs from single or partner schools. Pairs may include one teaching assistant.
Please bring one or two empty (and clean!) juice or milk cartons – preferably square based, some string, scissors, scrap paper and a range of elastic bands.
Please note that for cancellations received less than 7 days before the start of the course the full course fee will be charged.
