Course Description Aimed at EYFS practitioners in the private, voluntary, independent and maintained sectors, childminders and committee members.

Basic safeguarding training for early years settings is aimed at all workers and volunteers who are in regular contact or have a period of intense but irregular contact with children. This is in line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage which requires providers to train all of their staff as outlined in paragraph 3.6. We recommend that this training should be refreshed every two to three years.

The course will support all those working within an early years setting to build understanding and confidence in relation to safeguarding children from harm and know what to do and where to go if they have any concerns.

Course Objectives The course will cover:

- Definition and categories of abuse
- Signs, indicators and impact of abuse
- Roles and responsibilities with reference to safeguarding children from harm
- Dealing with a disclosure of abuse and recording concerns
- Managing allegations against staff and minimising risk to staff
- Wider safeguarding issues
