| | The Secure Base Approach to Foster Care | |
| | Starts: | Thursday 30 June 2022 09:30 to 14:30 | Code: FC12 | | | | Venue: | St Marys & St Petroc's Church Hall, St Mary's & St Petroc's Hall, Bodmin, PL31 1NF | Map | | | | | About this course | This course will provide an overview of the secure base approach and then focus on its practical application for foster carers.
Secure Base is a model of caregiving that draws on theories of attachment, resilience and child placement research and aligns with the PACE approach. From this theoretical perspective it develops a very practical approach. It looks at what practical sensitive but straightforward strategies can be used to provide caregiving that develops secure close relationships. It considers what strategies help children recover from earlier harmful experiences, feel competent to face future challenges successfully and fulfil their potential. It focuses on how to help children develop resilience, self-esteem and the capacity to reflect on their feelings and have a sense of hope for the future.

| | Primary History Subject Cluster | |
| | Starts: | Thursday 30 June 2022 16:00 until 17:30 | Code: PSC HIS | | | | Venue: | To Be Confirmed, TBC, . | Map | | | | | About this course | Our new Primary Subject Clusters established and facilitated by Cornwall Council’s School Effectiveness Team, but led by expert subject practitioners from across both primary and secondary phases in Cornwall, seek to create a sustainable model of continuous improvement for both effective subject leadership and curriculum development, through the establishment of networked learning communities, focused on foundation curriculum subjects.
Recognising that a growing body of evidence-based research tells us that a teacher’s subject knowledge is one of the most powerful levers we have in securing the best possible outcomes for all learners, our ambition is that these learning communities will provide an opportunity to reflect on current practice within subjects, build confidence and expertise in subject specific content knowledge and pedagogy and collaboratively develop strategies for improvement that have the best chances of sustained impact.
