Accredited by Cache, this 12 day Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) qualification (https://nasen.org.uk/training-and-cpd/early-years/accredited-early-years-senco-award.html) is a new and highly respected, nationally recognised programme that we are delighted to now offer in Cornwall. The qualification may be awarded at level 3 and is for practitioners working within private, voluntary and independent settings (PVI’s), childminders and school nurseries. All education providers are required to have arrangements in place to identify and support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and to promote equality of opportunity for children in their care. The qualification is designed for those already working in a SENCO role as part of their job role, or those who are interested in doing so. The programme may be eligible for financial support. Early years SENDCo network meetings are held termly across different venues in the county. The meetings provide an opportunity to raise professional standards through sharing experiences via networking, information sharing and sector updates from both ourselves and guest speakers.
The focus for the summer term SENDCo network meetings will be on transitions. You will be discussing what makes a good transition and looking at resources available as well as having the opportunity to reflect on your own practice. The team of curriculum advisors at Cornwall Council are providing a range of curriculum-based seminars aimed at senior and middle leaders that will support professional development and school improvement.
The short online seminars are designed to provide an insight into key areas of curriculum development that can be further supported by the curriculum advisors working directly with your school to provide a bespoke package.
• Each seminar is distinct in itself but forms part of an overall picture of curriculum intent, implementation and impact. • The online seminars will provide information, facilitate access to resources and an opportunity for teachers to share and reflect on their practice. • Pre and post tasks will support the online seminar and help you to develop your practice.
The online seminar will cover:
Seminar 6: Assessing impact: Monitoring and evaluating the impact of the curriculum – (Part 2).
• To evaluate the pace of pupil progress, pupil outcomes, and pupils’ preparedness for their next steps. • To identify the key principles of an effective cycle of school improvement in order to evaluate impact and develop capacity for sustainable development.

How can we help children get ‘in on the play’ and what strategies can we use when children get ‘stuck’ and aren’t making the progress we would like with peer interaction?
This one-hour session will provide ideas and practical strategies to support 3 and 4 year olds to have more success in taking part in co-operative play.
